After beating the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Wild Card Series, the Detroit Tigers will face off against the Seattle Mariners in the AL Division Series, marking a matchup between two former Ohio State baseball players.
Dillon Dingler, a North Canton native and starting catcher for the Tigers, helped beat the Guardians with a go-ahead home run in Game 3 of the wild card, clinching the winner-take-all game 6-3.

The Tigers drafted Dingler in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft after his junior year. Dingler was a pitcher his first year on the Buckeyes, later converting into a catcher for his sophomore and junior seasons.

He will face his former teammate, Dominic Canzone, a right fielder for the Mariners who hit .300 with an .840 OPS as a breakout player for the AL West champions. The former Buckeye outfielder played with Dingler on the 2019 Ohio State team, then was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB draft.
Canzone had a 5-for-5 three-homer game during the Mariners’ AL West push in the final weeks of the regular season.
