As both sides of the National League Division Series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs play their cards close to their vests, the wait for more Jackson Chourio news will have to wait until Game 2 arrives on Oct. 6.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy indicated that Chourio remains day-to-day on the team’s off-day Sunday, Oct. 5, before the outfielder underwent test in the field during the club’s workout.

“I can’t give you a definitive, but I know that we’re going to test some things today,” Murphy said. “He’s going to be out there today. I don’t know that he’ll do much, but the MRI came back and it’s inconclusive. It’s not a serious hamstring strain, but it’s not necessarily something that won’t limit him.

“We’re going to kind of see how he feels. He’s going to go through some testing, and if he feels anything, we’re going to shut it down.”

Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Jackson Chourio (11) bends over after suffering a hamstring injury in the second inning of their National League Division Series game against the Chicago Cubs Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Chourio ran at roughly 50 percent from home to first under the watchful eye of Brewers trainers and coach Julio Borbon. He appeared to move gingerly but did not seem to be in any pain during or after the running. Chourio did not hit on the field, nor did he do any more rigorous base running.

Chourio said the move to leave Game 1 was “precautionary.” He exited in the second inning after legging out an infield single that pushed the Brewers lead to 9-1 in a game they would eventually win, 9-3, to take a 1-0 series lead.

“Compared to the last time that this happened, I feel like I’m in a very good position,” Chourio said.

The ‘last time’ referenced by Chourio was the right hamstring strain he suffered against the Cubs on July 29. Following that game, it’s worth noting, Chourio said he only felt “a tickle” but then didn’t return for a month.

If Chourio misses time, Murphy confirmed Isaac Collins will take over in left field. The 28-year-old rookie was hitting .288 with a .833 OPS on Aug. 13, a performance that landed him as one of the frontrunners for rookie of the year in the National League, but he struggled to finish the year, batting .188 with a .615 OPS the rest of the way.

“His last half, like other guys I could pick out, the last half or last month wasn’t so great,” Murphy said. “The fact that Chourio came back and was able to play squeezed him a little bit, playing-time (wise). He wouldn’t have made the team if we were coming off spring training 100 percent healthy. Thank God he did and thank God he did what he did for us. He was great all year for us, and will continue to contribute.”
