CHICAGO (WLUK) — After Monday night’s 7-3 win over the Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers are just one victory away from a trip to the National League Championship Series.
The Brew Crew now heads to Wrigley Field for Wednesday afternoon’s game with a 2-0 series lead over their division rivals.
Good Day Wisconsin’s Emily Deem traveled to Chicago and deep into Cubs territory to bring you a firsthand look at the energy and excitement surrounding Game 3 of the NLDS and chat with fans ahead of the big game.
She checked out Gallagher Way, an open-air plaza for family-friendly activities that was developed outside Wrigley Field. The space, which is similar to Titletown in the shadows of Lambeau Field, is enjoyed by Cubs fans, visitors and families in the community year-round.
Both the Brewers and the Cubs practiced Tuesday, drawing plenty of fans to the area around the stadium.
Leo Sarcona and Joshua Dushman, 14 years old, waited outside to get autographs from players on both teams. Meanwhile, father-son duo Mark and Trent Weyermuller — both from Chicago, both Cubs fans — stood by the marquee sign, waiting for fly balls.
“I have a ball that I just caught over behind the park on Waveland Avenue. This is the only park of the 30 ballparks where you can catch a ball outside the park. Of course, in San Francisco, if you have a kayak, you can catch them in McCovey Cove, but this is the only park in America — major league ballpark — where you can catch a home run ball. This is a batting practice ball today, but this is the only park you can do that,” said Mark.
About a mile southwest of Wrigley Field is Will’s Northwoods, which has been open for more than 30 years in Chicago. It offers Wisconsin/Northwoods vibes like family, food, culture and, of course, sports.
You’ll see a lot of Packers items scattered across the walls, but baseball is on the mind of most right now. Will’s has been packed with Brewers fans.
“We’re always catering to our Cubs fans, being so close to Wrigley,” said General Manager Katie Herrera. “But also, with those Wisconsin ties, we have a lot of Brewers fans who are coming through. They’ve been more present as of recent, with the higher standing that the Brewers have had this year. But they’re equally as fun as our Cubs fans, and it was about 50/50 on Saturday for game one.”
It’s safe to say Chicago will be buzzing Wednesday as the Brewers aim to sweep the Cubs.
