Blame Christopher Ilitch, Scott Harris for Detroit Tigers’ collapse

On “Days of Roar,” Evan Petzold and Chris Brown evaluate who to blame for the Detroit Tigers’ collapse, highlighting Chris Ilitch and Scott Harris.

CLEVELAND — The Detroit Tigers were in a rain delay.

The Tigers and Cleveland Guardians entered a rain delay Wednesday, Sept. 24, before starting the second of three games in the series at Progressive Field. The game eventually started at 7:16 p.m., following a 36-minute delay.

“We plan on fighting the weather,” Hinch said before Wednesday’s game.

First pitch was initially scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

For the Tigers, right-hander Jack Flaherty is scheduled to start Wednesday’s game.

The 29-year-old owns a 4.60 ERA in 30 starts, but in his most recent outing — against the Guardians — he allowed one run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts across five innings.

Right-hander Tanner Bibee is set to start for the Guardians. The 26-year-old has a 4.34 ERA in 30 starts, and in his most recent outing — against the Tigers — he surrendered one run on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts across six innings.

The Tigers have lost seven games in a row.

Both the Tigers and Guardians have an 85-72 record with five games remaining, but the Guardians have already clinched the head-to-head tiebreaker, so they’re ahead of the Tigers in the American League Central standings.
