Saturday’s most noteworthy event is 2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. back on his rehab assignment, as he inches closer to his return to the Atlanta Braves lineup. We also get to watch Rayven Antonio and Brett Sears pitch for the two A-ball affiliates, while Jose Perdomo and Ethan Workinger try to continue their recent hot streaks.
Charlotte Knights at Gwinnett Stripers – 6:05 PM ET
Pitching Probables
CLT: Tyler Schweitzer, 1-1 8.50 ERA
GWI: Ian Anderson, 1-0 1.13 ERA
The Ronald Acuna Jr. show is back in Gwinnett as his rehab assignment continues. He went hitless in two at bats last night, but walked twice and scored a pair of runs. Meanwhile Jarred Kelenic is coming off a box score filling game, going three for four with two runs, four RBI, and a stolen base.
Ian Anderson is back on the mound tonight, though don’t let his stat line fool you. Anderson has a 1.13 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through his first eight innings, but he hasn’t exactly been missing bats yet. This start will give him another chance to try and correct that as he attempts to earn his way back to the show.
Columbus Clingstones at Knoxville Smokies – 7:00 PM ET
Pitching Probables
COL: TBD
KNX: Will Sanders, 2-1 2.70 ERA
Columbus is back in action against former University of South Carolina star Will Sanders tonight. Ethan Workinger is still on fire, going one for three with a walk and a steal last night in the win. He and David McCabe, who had an RBI last night, are the two biggest names to watch for the Clingstones. It’s also worth noting that Drew Compton is coming off a three hit game that included a double and seems to be getting going after his slow start to the year.
Rome Emperors at Greensboro Grasshoppers – 6:30 PM ET
Pitching Probables
ROM: Brett Sears, 2-0 0.82 ERA
GRN: Khristian Curtis, 0-3 8.41 ERA
In a slightly surprising move, Brett Sears is getting another start in High-A after proving himself to be too much for hitters at this level. Sears has been untouchable with a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with a 13.0 K/9 through 29.2 innings across four starts and three relief appearances. The Rome offense is looking to turn things around a day after scoring one run on just three hits on Friday.
Augusta GreenJackets at Columbia Fireflies – 6:05 PM ET
Pitching Probables
AUG: Rayven Antonio, 3-0 2.53 ERA
COL: Josh Hansell, 1-2 5.27 ERA
The GreenJackets are throwing Rayven Antonio out as the starter in this one as they try to get the offense going again after a fairly slow night for them last night. Antonio has been excellent so far with a 2.53 ERA, career high 8.4 K/9, and a high 1.50 ground outs to air outs ratio. The offense at the top of the order struggled to see anyone do more than single last night and didn’t cause any havoc on the bases, though Owen Carey led the way with a single and a walk in five trips to the plate.
FCL Braves vs FCL Rays – 10:00 AM ET
Pitching Probables
BRA: TBD
RAY: TBD
After a slow three games, top prospect Jose Perdomo is red hot. He went two for five yesterday to bring him to nine for his last 18 over the prior four games, with at least one hit in each and three multi-hit games. Carlos Monteverde is here now and after a two-hit game yesterday is three for nine over three games following his demotion from Augusta. Monteverde, still just 19, only played 10 games at this level prior to this year – so it stands to reason that he could use a little more seasoning before he is ready for full season ball.
