As Toronto continues to advance, Joey Bats is sharing optimism for the Jays’ performance, even predicting that his former team might come out on top this season.

In an interview with The Brandon Gonez Show on Thursday, Bautista revealed that he believes the team has a solid shot at winning the World Series.

“I think so. Especially with some teams being down, but more because of the group that they have together and how they are playing. I think they got it!”

Bautista praised the team’s collaboration and perceived enthusiasm this season, which he thinks will take them far.

“They are doing awesome. Their hitting is amazing, the starting pitches unbelievable, and they’ve been healthy. And it looks like they’re having fun and enjoying each other. I’m hoping that they can keep doing this all the way to the end and win the whole series,” he added.

The former baseball star said that he has become a die-hard fan of the team, closely following their latest plays, along with his daughters, who are also fans. He also shared that seeing the team do so well has made him nostalgic of his baseball career.

“I’m maybe one of the Jays’ biggest fans nowadays. It’s something that I get to share with my daughters. We tune in and watch, whether it’s during dinner time or homework time. I need to pay attention, so I know what’s going on with the team,” he said.

“At times like now, when the team is doing so well, I do miss [playing with the team], I get a little FOMO.”

Bautista was a right fielder for the Blue Jays for most of his career, starring in the team for 10 of the 15 MLB seasons he has played. In total, he played 1235 games for the Toronto team, scoring the Jays 288 homers, more than any other player in the major leagues.

After almost 10 years with the team, Bautista left the Jays in 2017, playing for the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, and Philadelphia Phillies. In 2023, he signed a one-day contract with the Blue Jays so that he could retire with his main team, earning a place at the Blue Jays Level of Excellence in a heartfelt ceremony at the Rogers Centre.
