Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones will likely undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, two baseball sources told Pittsburgh Baseball Now.

The sources said on Sunday that doctors told Jones he will need the procedure and “it’s all but a done deal” that it will be performed soon.

Jones, 23, will miss the rest of this season and likely all next season if he has surgery.

Jones has been on the injured list all season with an ulnar collateral ligament strain. During spring training, Jones pitched 12 innings in four Grapefruit League games before being shut down. He tried to rehab the injury rather than have surgery.

In his MLB debut season last year, Jared Jones had a 6-8 record and 4.14 ERA in 22 starts. He was the Pirates’ second-round selection in the 2020 amateur draft from La Mirada High School in Whittier, Calif.
