The Manhattan Optimist 8U Jaguars roared through the Cap City Cornstock Classic at Bettis Family Sports Complex on Sunday, clinching the championship title with a thrilling 10-7 comeback victory over Freedom Fastpitch 8U. The win capped off a dominant four-game run in which the Jaguars showcased explosive offense and airtight defense.

Game 1: Jaguars set the tone early

The Jaguars opened the tournament with a commanding 12-4 win over SL Stars. A first-inning barrage led by Sadie Larchick, Aubrie Fox and Clara Bauer put the Jaguars ahead quickly. The team racked up 18 hits, including three from Vivian Vilkanskas, and executed both a triple play and a double play.

Game 2: Synergy no match for Jaguars

In their second matchup, Manhattan overwhelmed Synergy — Barone 8U, 14-3. Molly Minnich and Ellie Bosse fueled a six-run second inning, while Bauer launched a solo homer in the fourth. Rachel Aikens led the team with three RBIs, and Vilkanskas once again went 3-for-3 at the plate. The Jaguars tallied 20 hits and continued their error-free streak.

Game 3: Dominance over SL Stars

Facing SL Stars again, Manhattan cruised to an 11-3 victory. A six-run first inning set the tone, with key hits in the game from Julia Runyan, Hattie Myers, and Alvy Soldan. Bauer later homered again in the third, driving in two more runs. The team added another 17 hits and turned a double play.

Championship: Jaguars rally

In the title game, Manhattan faced their toughest test yet. Down 7-4 after two innings, the Jaguars mounted a dramatic comeback in the fourth. Clutch singles from Claire McCoy, Bosse, and Emery Forster flipped the score to 10-7. A fantastic double play by Ruby Hummel sealed the win.

Showcase of talent and teamwork

Across four games, the Manhattan Optimist 8U Jaguars totaled 72 hits, executed five double plays and one triple play.

The Jaguars finished out the fall season with a perfect 8-0 record and two tournament championships.
