KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Almost two decades after donating hundreds of signed baseballs to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, a legendary musician returned to the museum Saturday to sign the book he wrote about his massive collection.
Geddy Lee is best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the legendary rock band Rush, but the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum knows him best as the man who donated 400 baseballs signed by Negro League players.
Lee returned to the museum today to sign his new book about the stories tied to those baseballs, called “72 Stories – From the Collection of Geddy Lee.”
Museum profile elevated by donation
The museum’s president, Bob Kendrick, said that the collection helped elevate the museum in more ways than one.
“His donation was not only this substantial addition to our collection, but, because of his place in the music industry, it raised the profile of this museum to a legion of his fans who many of them had likely never heard about the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum,” Kendrick said.
Kendrick said Lee actually bid on the collection at an auction specifically to donate to the museum.
