The Seattle Mariners took Game 1 of the ALCS from the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday night, which means they’re just three wins away from the first World Series in franchise history.

That’s one of the things MLB Network’s Jon Morosi pointed out from the field at Toronto’s Rogers Centre after the Mariners’ 3-1 win in his reaction video for Seattle Sports.

Seattle Mariners 3, Toronto Blue Jays 1: Recap | Instant Reaction | Box score

You can watch the video at the top of this post. Here are three takeaways he shared.

• The Mariners received six stellar innings from starting pitcher Bryce Miller on just three days rest, which was huge considering how much pitching they had to use in their 15-inning marathon win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night just to get to the ALCS. Friday’s game plus the long trip to Toronto left many assuming the M’s would have a tough time winning Game 1, but that clearly wasn’t the case.

Morosi’s take on it?

“A masterful performance by Miller and the Seattle bullpen. It seems that they actually drew confidence and strength from what they had done against the Tigers instead of being tired from the journey.”

• Cal Raleigh had the big blast for the Mariners, crushing a 420-foot home run off of a two-strike splitter from Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning.

It’s a pretty amazing swing when you watch it, but it’s even more amazing when you hear just how rare it is for Gausman’s splitter to be hit like that.

Cal Raleigh burns Blue Jays again with HR No. 62 in ALCS Game 1

“Cal Raleigh drove a splitter out of the ballpark from Kevin Gausman, something that almost never happens,” Morosi said. “Gausman had given up in the regular season a .233 slugging percentage on two-strike splitters. Not that one.”

• Game 2 is set for 2:03 p.m. Monday with Mariners veteran and one-time All-Star Logan Gilbert matching up on the mound against impressive Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage. The threat of facing Yesavage, who struck out 11 over 5 1/3 scoreless, hitless innings in the ALDS against the Yankees, is a little less dire after Seattle won Game 1.

And based on how Sunday went, the pressure is now on the Jays and their 22-year-old right-hander.

“This is going to be now a fascinating series moving forward,” Morosi said. “In many ways, Trey Yesavage has the best pure stuff on the Blue Jays’ pitching staff. He starts Game 2 for the Blue Jays, and yet he’s never quite encountered a situation like this where his team is now behind in the series (and) he is under stress having to make a huge start.

“The Toronto bullpen also had some struggles (Sunday), especially in the realm of falling behind hitters early and issuing some walks. The Jays have to clean that up, they need a huge start from Yesavage, and they’ve got to do more than score just that one run from the first inning to get back and level this series at one game apiece before it shifts to what is going to be a raucous T-Mobile Park in Seattle.”
