Before we take a look at this week’s Chiefs game-day fits as players arrived at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for an evening showdown against the Detroit Lions, homage must be paid belatedly to the jaw-dropping suit Patrick Mahomes wore in Jacksonville last week.
The three-piece, custom herringbone suit by Mahomes’ tailor, Richards Bespoke in Nashville, inspired this Instagram comment: “Unreal! One of the best suits I’ve ever seen.”
Agreed. Mahomes’ jersey number 15 was sewn on the light pink lining of the coat.
The superstar Chiefs QB was more casual for “Sunday Night Football,” elevating his baggy jeans, white Dior T shirt and cropped jacket with a pair of new Oakleys sunnies that record video. He also wore a monstrous watch as big as a puppy’s head that appeared diamond-encrusted.
Offensive lineman Mike Caliendo celebrated his hometown’s baseball team, Milwaukee Brewers, by wearing one of the MLB team’s jerseys. The Brewers are heading into the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, who is of Samoan descent, wore a traditional Samoan Ula Fala necklace, a symbol of love, leadership and well wishes. It’s made of segments of the pandanus fruit. Some families pass the necklaces down through generations.
Wide receiver Nikko Remigio, who is making a run for most fashionable Chief this season, also honored his culture in a Barong Tagalog, the national dress of the Philippines.
The shirt is traditionally made of sheer fabrics woven from pineapple fiber or banana plants, which was perfect for a warm October day that reached the high 80s before kickoff.
Linebacker Leo Chenal dressed for tropical weather, or vacation. And we think he was wearing a lei.
It wasn’t too warm, though, for a few jackets. Defensive end Charles Omenihu wore a cropped camouflage jacket with a white T-shirt and leather moto pants.
Some of Omenihu’s teammates wrapped up in hoodies. Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott’s hoodie bore the name of tattoo artist Jon Garber’s new book, “Addition x Subtration.” The book contains 50 of Garber’s tattoo designs created during the pandemic.
Defensive end George Karlaftis gave a shout-out to a local coffee shop in a bright blue T-shirt that read: Headrush Coffee Roasters.
And lastly, Travis Kelce wore the “I just rolled out of bed” look.
Maybe he slept in a redwood?
