The New York Yankees have some important roster decisions to make this offseason after a disappointing postseason exit.
After besting their longtime rivals in the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees couldn’t make it past the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS. Despite boasting arguably the most potent offense in baseball, New York continues to struggle in the playoffs, with most of its star players, excluding Aaron Judge, having a poor postseason.
With the Yankees needing to make changes to their roster for next season, the New York Post’s Joel Sherman suggests that the team trade two-time All-Star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. this offseason.

“Be open to trading Jazz Chisholm Jr.,” Sherman suggested. “I just do not see the world where the Yankees go long with Chisholm. And he is a free agent after the 2026 season. So is it best to save some money toward (Cody) Bellinger and get prospects and/or a piece that helps in the present?
“He is not an easy trade. Chisholm was a 30-30 guy who, when engaged, could also defend. But he remains, to me, the baseball version of prime Russell Westbrook. Often the best athlete on the field/court moving at a heightened speed with supreme confidence — a combination that leads to excellence or rash, not-well-thought-out mistakes. He can win or lose you a game — often for the same reasons. And if there is not going to be a long-term commitment, the Yankees must explore what can be gotten for him.”
Chisholm is set for an arbitration extension for the 2026 season, but is set to become a free agent following the year. The 27-year-old was named an All-Star this season, slashing .242/.332/.813 with 31 home runs and 80 RBIs. Chisholm displays power that few second basemen in the league can match, but his defensive miscues and strikeout tendencies make it more understandable if New York chooses to part ways with him.
