LEWISTOWN, Mo. — The bats were going for Highland in its regular season finale on Monday, as the Lady Cougars defeated Scotland County 22-11.

Highland combined for 21 hits and four runs, and run-ruling the Lady Tigers in five innings.

The Lady Cougars were down 10-1 midway through the second inning before scoring eight in the bottom half of that frame and two more in the third to take the lead.

Highland starting pitcher Abby Lay was limited to 1.2 innings after allowing seven walks and eight earned runs.

Lay made up for that with her bat, going 2-for-5 with a double, home run, five RBIs and two runs.

Highland relief pitcher Corinne Brinkley earned the win in relief after pitching 3.1 innings in relief with two strikeouts, while allowing three hits, three walks and no earned runs. Brinkley also went 1-for-3 with a walk, stolen base and two runs.

Lady Cougars center fielder Hannah Ritterbusch went 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, two RBIs and three runs.

Highland right fielder Ali Lundberg went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, a stolen base and an RBI.

Lady Cougars shortstop and leadoff hitter Keera Rothweiler went 3-for-4 with a walk, RBI, three runs and four stolen bases, while second baseman Addy Abell went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs and five RBIs.

Highland catcher Bailie Crist went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, four RBIs and a run, while third baseman Manda Jennings went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Up next for Highland (21-7) is the Class 2 District 5 Tournament, which they will host. The Lady Cougars will play the winner of the Palmyra vs. Mark Twain quarterfinal in the district semifinal at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
