MONROE CITY, Mo. — Monroe City finished off the regular season on a high note, defeating Salisbury 5-4 to end a three-game losing streak.
Lady Panthers starting pitcher Taitym Foltz earned the win after pitching a complete game with one strikeout, while allowing 11 hits, two walks and three earned runs.
Monroe City struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Bradi Keller scored on an error.
Salisbury tied it up in the top of the second, but Monroe City regained the lead in the bottom of the third when Naaron Hays hit a sac fly to score Lola Smyser and Cam Dyer came home on a passed ball.
The Lady Panthers added another run in the fourth inning when Kinley Feummeler walked with the bases loaded to score Emily Spalding.
Monroe City scored its final run in the sixth inning when Foltz hit an RBI ground out to score Makenna Miller and give the Lady Panthers a 5-3 cushion going into the top of the seventh. It was much needed after Salisbury’s Brynn Bachtel hit a solo home run.
Bradi Keller went 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases.
Hays went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI, while Miller went 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base.
Salisbury stating pitcher Quynn Fischer was tagged with the loss after pitching six innings with four strikeouts, while allowing six hits, three walks and three earned runs.
Up next for Monroe City (14-11) is the Class 2 District 5 opener against Clark County (9-14) at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
