Rawlings Baseball unveiled its three finalists at each position for the annual Gold Glove awards, and a couple unsurprising Milwaukee Brewers made the list.
Last year’s Platinum Glove winner, given to the best overall defender in the National League, Brice Turang is again a finalist at second base, squaring off with Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner and the Miami Marlins‘ Xavier Edwards. Turang won his first Gold Glove last season, but it’ll be tough for him to repeat.

Though Turang reputationally would have the edge, the Statcast measure of Outs Above Average regards Hoerner (14) as easily the best defensive second baseman in the league, followed by Edwards (9). Turang, somewhat surprisingly, grades out as a below-average defender in 2025 with a mark of -1. That stat gave Turang a score of 6 last year, with Hoerner at 10.
In Defensive Runs Saved, Hoerner again leads the way with 17, with Edwards at 12 and Turang at 7. That’s dramatically different from last year, when Turang posted a 29, with Hoerner at 21.
Bear in mind, most defensive measures have flaws. But even by a more traditional measure, Turang had nine errors this season to Hoerner’s four, and Hoerner played in slightly more innings.
Right fielder Sal Frelick also made the cut at his position, one year after winning his first Gold Glove in his corner outifeld spot. He’s matched up with Corbin Carroll of Arizona and Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres.

Carroll leads the way in OAA (9), followed closely by Tatis (8) and Frelick (7). In DRS, it’s Tatis (15), Frelick (9) and Carroll (7). Tatis and Frelick have both been guilty of three errors this year, though Tatis has played significantly more innings at the position (1,299 to 1,117 for Frelick). Carroll has just one error in 1,189 innings. Frelick’s 10 outfield assists are just ahead of Carroll (9) and Tatis (5), and one behind Mike Yastrzemski for the most among right fielders in MLB this season.

Frelick has also played 71 innings in center field this season.
Former Brewers first baseman Carlos Santana was named an American League finalist at his position; he’s back with Cleveland after winning a Gold Glove with Minnesota last year. Former Brewers player Mauricio Dubón, a Gold Glove winner in 2023, is a finalist at utility for the Astros.
