BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — The Baltimore Orioles are expected to interview future MLB Hall-of-Famer Albert Pujols for manager, according to an ESPN report.
The interview has not yet taken place, but is expected to, the report said.
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias was a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals when Pujols was with the organization in the 2000s.
Pujols also played with Matt Holliday, the father of current Oriole Jackson Holliday, adding another connection between the possible manager and Baltimore.
Earlier this offseason, it was reported that Pujols is a top candidate for the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, a team he played for a decade in the back half of his career.
ESPN said he met with Angels general manager Perry Minasian last Thursday.
Pujols has expressed interest in becoming an MLB manager for a few years now, and even managed a Dominican winter ball team, the Leones del Escogido, to a championship in January.
He’s also set to be the manager for the Dominican Republic in next year’s World Baseball Classic.
If he gets an MLB managing job, he would likely skip out on the tournament.
So far this offseason, only Yankees third base coach Luis Rojas and interim manager Tony Mansolino are known candidates for the Orioles manager position.
