[How to watch Blue Jays-Mariners | ALCS Game 5 live blog]

The Seattle Mariners’ and Toronto Blue Jays’ quests for a World Series appearance continue Friday, as the two face off in Game 5 of the ALCS in Seattle before the series shifts back to Toronto. The ALCS has been stellar so far: The Mariners took a two-game lead to start, then the Blue Jays evened things up with a pair of dominant road wins.

Toronto’s win Thursday in Game 4 was much like Wednesday’s, as the Blue Jays tallied runs throughout the game in a dominant offensive performance. Seattle had a slow night at the plate while also struggling on the mound: Starter Luis Castillo, normally one of the team’s most consistent arms, lasted only 2 1/3 innings before he was pulled due to an early Toronto surge.

Meanwhile, Max Scherzer turned back time for a killer start for the Jays. The 41-year-old starter pitched 5 2/3 innings, notching five strikeouts and allowing only three hits. The most memorable moment came in the fifth inning, when Scherzer shouted at manager John Schneider on the mound to let him stay in, right before getting a clutch strikeout.

We’ll see if we get that kind of drama again on Friday. Bryce Miller takes the mound as Seattle’s starting pitcher, while Kevin Gausman gets the ball for Toronto.

While there’s still plenty of time for either team to pull ahead, the Mariners will hope to use Game 5 as a major reset. Seattle, one of the most postseason-poor teams in the league, has never won more than two ALCS games in franchise history; this team will do its best to change that on Friday.
