One playful troll job by the Milwaukee Brewers may have marked the beginning of the end for MLB’s best regular season team.

The top-seeded Brewers outlasted the Chicago Cubs last week in a grueling five-game NLDS. After Milwaukee won Game 5, the team thought it would be funny to make fun of their division rival’s tradition of raising a “W” flag to celebrate a win. The Brewers raised a huge “L” flag instead.

The moment marked the last win the Brewers would get this season, as the Los Angeles Dodgers swept them out of the NLCS in a Game 4 completely dominated by two-way star Shohei Ohtani.

Several fans, some of them Cubs supporters, labeled Milwaukee’s unceremonious exit as some form of karmic retribution for trolling Chicago.

It might be a curse. That was not the same Brewers team. Fly the L. pic.twitter.com/3eMyff9DOW

The greatest Brewers team of all time since taking a picture with an L flag:

Milwaukee’s bats went completely silent against the Dodgers. The Brewers looked nothing like the team that won an MLB-best 97 games. They had a woeful .118 batting average across four games and had just 14 total hits in the series.

The Brewers also became the first No. 1 overall seed since 2004 to get swept in a seven-game series. It didn’t help that Ohtani had arguably the greatest single-game outing in MLB postseason history.

The Japanese superstar broke the internet with his three home runs as a batter to go along with 10 strikeouts over six scoreless innings as a pitcher. He near-singled-handedly eliminated the Brewers by himself, without needing help from any voodoo curses.
