Eduardo Quintero is not a secret. MLB Pipeline has the 19-year-old outfielder ranked as the Dodgers’ eighth-rated prospect. But his stock is about to go parabolic.
With Quintero, Zyhir Hope, and Josue De Paula, all three outfielders presently thriving in leagues they are two years younger than average, Dodger fans are going to have fantasies of Mays, Mantle, and Snider. The three are all months apart in age, with De Paula in the middle, about to turn 20 on Saurday. Quintero is the youngest; he will be 19 until September.
When talking about De Paula, scouts have used Ken Griffey Jr. and Yordan Alvarez as comps, and if that doesn’t get you excited, his workout partners this winter were Juan Soto and Elly De La Cruz. Hope at 19 hit a 470-foot home run, and his home runs are hit so hard they look like Ohtani’s. And he carries a complete toolbox, with his scouting grades from MLB Pipeline: hit 55, power 60, run 55, arm 60, and field 55 (the average is 50).
That brings us to Quintero. As the youngest of the three, he has the shortest history. But for the stage he is at, he is starting to give off serious young Kobe Bryant type vibes. These are a few notes from his Bio on his MLB Pipeline prospect page:
“He was the best 17-year-old performer in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League in his pro debut, batting .359/.472/.618 and starring in the playoffs as his team won the championship. He won another title last summer in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he finished second in on-base percentage (.459), runs (49), and steals (29).”
So by age 18, he had already led two teams to championships. Now he is playing at Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, second in the league in OPS, behind since-promoted Mike Sirota. Hitting atop the Quakes’ line-up, both he and the team have been on an offensive onslaught, scoring 75 runs on a six-game winning streak last week.
Quintero in May is hitting .387/.500/.726 wiith a 219 wRC+ while playing both center field and right field. MLB Pipeline gives him a 55 hit grade, 45 power grade, 60 run grade, 60 arm grade, and 55 field grade. Now his power is already emerging at the age of 19. He is presently tied for the California League in home runs and second in slugging percentage. He is also fifth in the league with 16 stolen bases.
Here is more from MLB Pipeline:
“Quintero is a polished hitter who rarely chases pitches out of the zone and makes consistent contact to all fields.”
“His quick right-handed swing produces high exit velocities for a teenager.”
“His quickness gives him plenty of range in center field, and he could become a plus defender.”
“His strong arm enables him to fit anywhere in the outfield, and he has registered 15 assists in 113 pro starts”.
Eduardo Quintero continues to destroy California League pitching. Quintero is hitting .323 OPS of 1.022, has hits in 15 games in a row & is hitting .397 in 58 at-bats this month. He also has 4 home runs so far in May, 14 RBIs, 4 doubles, 2 triples, and has scored 17 runs. Wow!… pic.twitter.com/vLurfExVot

This is a video from earlier in the year
Eduardo Quintero, one of the top outfield prospects in baseball, had THE game last night that shows why he’s so highly thought of.
He hit a home run in his 1st at-bat to show his power, then he broke his bat into about 50 different pieces, then stole 2nd base on the 1st pitch… pic.twitter.com/DeFexZcnXo
