Tigers celebrate with champagne after beating Guardians to make ALDS
The Detroit Tigers celebrate beating the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, Oct. 2, in Cleveland to advance to the ALDS.
The Detroit Tigers have advanced to the ALDS in the 2025 MLB playoffs.
Dillon Dingler homered in the sixth inning of Game 3 of the AL wild-card series and the Tigers dropped four more runs on the Cleveland Guardians in the seventh inning to win, 6-3, and head to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season. They will now play the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS and the series will start on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 8:38 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Park.
The Tigers took a 1-0 series lead in a 2-1 Game 1 win on a 14-strikeout performance from ace Tarik Skubal. However, All-Star righty Casey Mize couldn’t help deliver a win in Game 2 as the Tigers’ bats went cold when it mattered most.
Ultimately it was the Tigers who got the last laugh, escapting a win-or-go-home Game 3 against Cleveland at Progressive Field to advance to the ALDS, where they’ll face the No. 2-seeded Seattle Mariners starting on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The Mariners were one of the hottest teams in all of baseball over the final month, posting a 17-8 record in September. Compare that to the Tigers, who were a measly 7-17 during their 24 regular season games in the final month.
Now the question will be if the Mariners were able to sustain their momentum during their near week off while the Tigers were fighting for their playoff lives with three games on the road. The winner of the best-of-five ALDS advances to face either the Blue Jays, Red Sox or Yankees in the best-of-seven ALCS.
