The Seattle Mariners are guaranteed a franchise first this week. It’s just not the first they were hoping to set up for themselves on Sunday night.
With a 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the ALCS on Sunday night, the Mariners now will play in the first Game 7 in their franchise history on Monday.

If the M’s can bounce back and win that one, they’ll get the first they really want: Seattle’s first World Series.
Game 7 of the Mariners’ ALCS with the Blue Jays is set for a 5:08 p.m. first pitch Monday. The Mariners Radio Network broadcast will be on the Seattle Sports app and 770 AM including the pregame show at 4 p.m., while the TV broadcast will be on FOX.
MLB’s postseason features best-of-seven series in the league championship round and World Series, with the division round a best-of-five and wild card round a best-of-three. The Mariners not only are the only organization without an appearance in the Fall Classic, but they had never won three games in an ALCS until their Game 5 win Friday night over the Blue Jays at T-Mobile Park, making Game 6 on Sunday the team’s first game ever with World Series implications. They now will play a second one less than 24 hours later.
The Mariners are in the ALCS for the fourth time in their 49 seasons in the big leagues. They lost to Cleveland in six games in 1995, and to the Yankees both in 2000 (six games) and 2001 (five games).
The last major league Seattle sports team to play a Game 7 was the Seattle Kraken, who lost in seven games in the NHL Stanley Cup Western Conference Semifinals to the Dallas Stars in 2023 after beating the Colorado Avalanche in seven games in the first round.
Before the Kraken, the previous Seattle team to play a Game 7 was the Seattle SuperSonics, who lost to the Houston Rockets in the NBA Western Conference Semifinals in 1997.
Despite the Mariners’ loss Sunday, they have been comfortable playing in Toronto in recent years. They are 4-2 at Rogers Center including the postseason in 2025, and had a two-game sweep in Toronto in an AL Wild Card Series in 2022 that included a memorable comeback in Game 2 from a seven-run deficit to win 10-9.
