It was the top of the ninth in Game 7 of the ALCS, Seattle was down to their last two outs, everyone was on the edge of their seats and then…
FOX cut to a Capital One ad mid–at-bat.
Fortunately, viewers didn’t miss any action, but airing an ad at such a critical, high-tension moment was a baffling choice. Fans watching at home were not happy.
“These ads should be banned generally, but especially in the 9th inning of any playoff game. Too much to ask? Also you could hear the disappointment in Joe’s voice as he set it up,” one fan wrote on X, referring to play-by-play announcer Joe Davis being the one to set up the ad.
“Saw that also and just rolled my f—- eyes. They cannot help themselves to show these in game commercials at every possible point in the game,” another angry fan chimed in.
“I’m so glad this is being highlighted. That ad greed was so gross,” fans continuously piled on.
“Absolutely awful. I will make it my business to never consider Capital One for anything again,” an upset customer and viewer declared.
Again, no game action was missed, but still a puzzling choice.
The game itself was one for the ages, as the Blue Jays came back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh thanks to George Springer’s three-run homer.
It marked the first go-ahead home run in a Game 7 when a team was trailing by multiple runs in the seventh inning or later. The Blue Jays were able to close out the Mariners for the last six outs, Capital One commercial aside.
And now for the first time since their last championship in 1993, Toronto is returning to the World Series.
There’s no doubt that superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be leading the postgame celebrations.

On the flip side, the Mariners were just nine outs away from the franchise’s first-ever World Series appearance. And then Springer happened.
It’s going to be a sleepless night in Seattle, but for all the wrong reasons.
It was a heartbreaking and crushing defeat — the kind that lingers, especially when you’re that close to reaching the sport’s biggest stage for the first time ever.
Devastation for Seattle and celebration for Toronto, such is the duality of sport.
Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers now await Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays in what promises to be an entertaining Fall Classic.
It all begins on Friday, October 24, when Game 1 kicks off in Toronto. The Dodgers will be looking to defend their title after winning it all last year, while the Blue Jays aim to reclaim the championship for the first time in over 30 years.
