The stage is set for the 2025 fall classic. The Toronto Blue Jays are making their first World Series appearance since they won back-to-back championships in 1992 and 1993, and they are taking on the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers enter the series as heavy favorites, despite not having home-field advantage. They swept the Brewers in the NLCS and have one of the most talented rosters we have seen in years. The Blue Jays beat the Mariners in seven games in the ALCS, highlighted by a clutch 3-run homer from George Springer.

The Blue Jays entered the season as an afterthought, considered to be the 4th or 5th best team in the AL East, but they defied the odds by winning the division and finishing with the best record in the American League. They have been underdogs all season long, so why should things change now? So, the question is, will the Dodgers beat up on the Blue Jays on their way to back-to-back championships? Or will the Blue Jays compete, force six or seven games, or even do the unthinkable and win it all?

On paper, the Dodgers have the better rotation, better bullpen, and better lineup. They have the best player in the world in Shohei Ohtani, who has starred this postseason, not only with the bat, but also as a starting pitcher. They have other former MVPs in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, and they have former Cy Young award winner Blake Snell leading their staff.

The Blue Jays boast a solid rotation, led by Kevin Gausman and featuring former Cy Young award winners Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber. They also have Vlad Guerrero Jr. in the middle of their lineup, who is having an otherworldly postseason so far. Where the Blue Jays could come up short is in the bullpen. The bullpen survived the Yankees in the ALDS and barely survived the Mariners in the ALCS, but the Dodgers present a much more difficult challenge.

Although the Jays can compete with the Dodgers, they will need everything to go right for them on the mound, and they will need to outslug the Dodgers, which will be a tall task. One thing the Blue Jays excel at better than anyone in MLB this season is their bat-to-ball skills. They are a tough team to strike out; they battle in the box and put the ball in play, which is magnified in the postseason.

The Dodgers won’t sweep this series like they did the NLCS, but they will win this series in five or six games. The Jays were able to beat American League teams that had flaws, but this Dodgers team is flawless. Expect them to dominate once again and be crowned 2025 World Series champions.
