There will still be some Milwaukee representation in the 2025 World Series, despite the Brewers’ loss in the NLCS.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder and UW-Milwaukee alum Daulton Varsho played for the black & gold from 2015-2017.

The Marshfield native looks to do what the Brewers couldn’t: beat L.A.

The Brew Crew didn’t come close to matching the talent-laden Dodgers, who swept them in four games.

Varsho is not only the first UWM alum to play in a World Series, but he was also the first Panther to feature in an MLB game.

He made his major league debut in 2020 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team that drafted him with the 68th pick in 2017.

In 2023, Varsho was traded to the Blue Jays. He won the Gold Glove award in 2024 as a center fielder.

Varsho battled injuries throughout the 2025 season, but was productive when able to play.

In only 71 games, Varsho batted .238 with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs, to go along with an .833 OPS.

He went viral thanks to a wild catch early in the season.

How Did He Play for UW-Milwaukee?

2015: Varsho played 51 games in his first season with the Panthers en route to making the Horizon League All-Freshman Team. He played as both an outfielder and a catcher throughout the campaign.

Varsho slugged for a .238 average, 34 RBIs and 5 HRs while sitting at a .748 OPS.

2016: Varsho completely broke out in his second year with the black & gold. He ended the year with a .381 average, 51 RBIs, 8 HRs and a 1.057 OPS in 57 games.

He earned Horizon League Player of the Year led after leading the conference in six different categories. Batting average (.381), hits (88), total bases (141), Triples (6) and slugging percentage (.610).

2017: Varsho rounded out his last season with the Panthers with another productive season. He hit for a .362 average to go with 39 RBIs, 11 HRs and a 1.133 OPS in 54 contests.

Varsho earned Second-Team All-Horizon League honors for his efforts.

The former Panther still pays homage to his alma mater in his Instagram bio.

Postseason Performance

Overall, Varsho is batting .273 with 8 RBIs, 2 HRs and an .804 OPS in 11 postseason games so far this October.

His best performance during the playoff run so far came in Game 2 of the ALDS against the New York Yankees. Varsho went 4/5 at the plate, with four RBIs and both of his postseason home runs.

He had a tougher time against the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS, but still came up big at the plate in games three and seven of the series.

Varsho had a 2-run double in Game 3 that helped open up the contest, leading to a 13-4 Blue Jays win to avoid going down 3-0 in the series.

In the win-or-go-home Game 7, he drove in the opening run for Toronto in their 4-3 win that clinched their first World Series birth in 32 years.
