SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sam Mote, assistant coach at Angelo State University, has been named the 2025 DII Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Mote, who joined ASU’s coaching staff in 2018, has helped transform the Rams into one of the top hitting teams in the nation.

Under his guidance, the Rams led the Lone Star Conference in batting average in four of his seven seasons.

Mote has coached eight NCAA Division II All-Americans, including 2019 Player of the Year Josh Elvir.

Before joining ASU, Mote served as a volunteer assistant at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and an assistant coach at the University of Northwestern Ohio, where he set program records.

Mote will be recognized at the 82nd annual ABCA Convention on January 9 in Columbus, Ohio.
