1992: Michael Jordan’s name surfaced during the drug and money-laundering trial of convicted cocaine dealer James “Slim” Bouler. Jordan initially said a check to Bouler for $57,000 was a business loan. Under oath, Jordan acknowledged the check was payment for gambling losses.

2005: Paul Konerko hit the 18th grand slam in World Series history and Scott Podsednik — who didn’t hit a home run in 507 regular-season at-bats — hit a home run off closer Brad Lidge with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Sox a 7-6 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the World Series. It was the 14th walk-off homer in World Series history.
The Sox swept the Astros and won their first World Series since 1917.

2019: The Chicago Cubs hired veteran catcher and 2016 World Series team member David Ross as their manager.
Ross, a native of Bainbridge, Georgia, was 262-284 in four seasons managing the Cubs from 2020-23. Under Ross, the Cubs won the NL Central in 2020. He was replaced by Craig Counsell. Ross has said returning to the dugout with the Atlanta Braves “would be amazing.”
