According to The Athletic’s Britt Ghiroli, Sawdaye and Cleveland’s Matt Forma are the two expected to receive the top front office position in Colorado.
Since joining the Diamondbacks in 2016 after following general manager Mike Hazen, Sawdaye has played a crucial role in shaping the team’s modern identity. A former Boston Red Sox executive, the D-Backs general manager brought championship experience and an analytical approach that helped the organization navigate one of the toughest stretches in its recent history.

Sawdaye’s vision for disciplined drafting, smart trades and long-term roster makeup has helped shape what fans recognize as the D-Backs today. From postseason appearances to a 110-loss season and eventually a National League pennant in 2023, his impact has been felt since he first arrived in the desert.
While the Rockies’ interest in Sawdaye signals change in Denver, it also reflects how the D-Backs’ front office has earned respect across the league. Arizona’s growing reputation as a franchise capable of developing both players and executives highlights the organization’s success, a recognition that extends well beyond its own clubhouse.

As Colorado continues to weigh its options for the general manager position, Sawdaye’s impact on the D-Backs won’t be forgotten. From scouting young talent such as Corbin Carroll to acquiring veterans like Ketel Marte, he has left an organizational blueprint that will continue to shape the team in the seasons ahead.

Whether or not he leaves for Colorado this offseason, Sawdaye’s recognition outside of the D-Backs organization is a testament to his work ethic.
