Cochrane-Fountain City is playing well heading into the playoffs as they notched their ninth win in the last 10 matches on Thursday night.Â
The Pirates ended up pulling away from the visitors in the opening set taking it 25-16. Eau Claire Immanuel then rallied to take set to 25-21, but then the home side settled in for the final two games winning 25-16 and 25-20.Â
The win improves C-FC’s overall record to 24-9 and their mark against conference foes to 8-2.
The Pirates received a one seed in the WIAA D4 playoffs and have a bye before they take on the winner of Independence/Gilmanton and Pittsville. That match will be Thursday, October 23.Â
With the loss, the Lancers drop to 17-16 overall and 9-1 in league play. They are a two seed in the WIAA D5 postseason bracket and will host the winner of Greenwood and Cornell also next Thursday.Â
With this result and Blair-Taylor’s win over Melrose-Mindoro, that marks the first conference championship for the Wildcats in program history.Â
