After narrowly missing a first round bye, Miami opens the ACC baseball tournament against last-place Cal on Tuesday.

Miami (31-23) finished ninth in the ACC college baseball regular season with a 15-14 mark, just 0.5 games behind Wake Forest in the race for a first round bye. Instead, the Hurricanes will take on 16th-seeded Cal (22-30) in the first game of the first round of the ACC tournament on Tuesday morning. The winner advances to the second round to take on Wake Forest on Wednesday. Miami missed the NCAA tournament in 2024 after four straight appearances, while the Golden Bears last qualified in 2019 and were 9-21 in ACC play.

The Hurricanes closed the regular season by dropping two of three to visiting Notre Dame last weekend. Daniel Cuvet leads the attack, slashing .374/.447/.707 with team-highs of 16 home runs and 76 RBIs. Jake Ogden leads the club with 12 steals in 12 attempts and has scored a team-best 57 runs.

Cal took two of three in their final ACC series over visiting Boston College, walking off a 4-3 win in 10 innings on Saturday. Jacob French comes into the tournament slashing .368/.416/.549 with four home runs and 32 RBIs. Dominic Smaldino leads the squad with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs.

In their respective series openers on Thursday Miami went with junior right-hander Griffin Hugus (5-6), who has a 3.92 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 14 starts and 78 innings, with 84 strikeouts. The Golden Bears used senior right-hander Cole Tremain as an opener on Thursday. Tremain has worked in 22 games, starting five, and owns a 3.26 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 38.2 innings.
