Tennessee hired Josh Elander on a five-year deal through 2030. He’ll earn at least $1 million annually.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee baseball coach Josh Elander agreed to a five-year contract through June 30, 2030, that will pay him at least $1 million annually, according to documents obtained by 10News.

The university announced Elander’s hiring days after Tony Vitello left the program for the major leagues. Elander served as associate head coach under Vitello for three seasons.

His contract splits compensation evenly between base salary and supplemental pay.

Vitello became college baseball’s highest-paid coach after leading the Vols to their first College World Series championship in 2024, earning more than $3 million annually.

Elander’s contract includes performance bonuses ranging from $20,000 for an SEC Tournament appearance to $200,000 for winning a second national championship. Additional incentives are tied to coaching awards and academic performance.
