As October winds down, most MLB teams are waiting for the World Series to end before the offseason truly starts in earnest.
Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox have made several notable moves over the last few days. They recently signed their first free agent of the offseason in catcher Jason Delay, finalized a new contract with Jason Varitek and re-signed pitching prospect Eduardo Rivera to a Minor League deal.
On Wednesday, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported that the Red Sox made a similar move by re-signing pitching prospect Reidis Sena.
Sena was Rivera’s teammate at Double-A Portland last season, spending the entire year with the Sea Dogs. In 41 2/3 innings over 25 appearances, the 24-year-old right-hander went 5-2 with a 3.46 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP, 49 strikeouts and 30 walks.

Primarily a reliever, Sena has made just two starts over the last three seasons combined. He has some experience closing games, however, notching 12 saves during that time.

Sena throws hard despite being on the smaller side for a pitcher, topping out at 98 mph on the radar gun. He has a decent curveball as well, although he still needs to work on his control based on his high walk rate.
Like Rivera, Sena has value as organizational depth and could reach the Major Leagues next year if he continues progressing. He’s spent his entire professional career with Boston, joining the organization in 2019.

After showing promise last season, Sena will continue to hone his skills for the Red Sox in the Minor Leagues next year.
