Seibu Yuma Masaki pitcher of Sophia University, the 6th overall pick in the developmental draft by the University of Tokyo, was greeted at the school on March 30.
Seibu Lions Vice President Hirosaku Akimoto and scout Jun Takeshita visited the school. Masaki commented, “Meeting them in person made me feel like it’s finally starting, and that I need to work hard from now on.”
This is the first time he has been selected in the NPB draft since the team’s 109-year history. He is currently playing in the third division league at Tohto University, and due to the lack of a pitcher coach, he has been self-studying as pitcher, learning pitch techniques mainly from videos on Instagram. Regarding the prospect of receiving professional instruction in the future, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I will absorb everything I can and hope to translate that into results.”
Training is his way of unwinding. The right-hand man, who loves muscle training so much that he frequents multiple gyms, was surprised when he learned that NPB players are granted the right to “go to Gold’s Gym as many times as they like,” saying, “Really?” He added, “I’m happy. I’m looking forward to it.”
I was looking forward to joining the team.
