PITTSFIELD, Ill. — As the No. 7 seed in the Class 2A QND Regional, Pittsfield opened up postseason play with a 5-1 win over New Berlin on Monday in the quarterfinal.

New Berlin scored in the top of the first inning off an Pittsfield error, with the Saukees tying it up after Torie Stambaugh scored off a sac fly.

Pittsfield took a 4-1 lead in the second inning after Josie McClintock doubled home a run and Sophie Gengler hit a two-run home run.

Emma Henry earned the win in the circle after pitching a complete game with nine strikeouts, while allowing four hits, two walks and no earned runs. Henry helped her own cause after hitting an RBI single in the third inning.

New Berlin starting pitcher Addy Hopkins took the loss after going six innings with one strikeout, while allowing 10 hits, no walks and four earned runs.

Gengler went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs and a run.

Pittsfield catcher Grace Henry went 2-for-3, while McClintock went 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run.

Up next for Pittsfield (22-8-1) is the regional semifinal game against Quincy Notre Dame (25-4) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Backyard.
