In the regular season, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement hit .277/.313/.398 with nine home runs, marking his first quality season. However, in the playoffs, Clement was an entirely different hitter.
In his very first postseason, the Blue Jays’ fifth-year infielder tore the cover off the ball, slashing an incredible .417/.421/.569 with one home run. But more importantly, Clement made his mark on MLB history, becoming one of the more obscure players to reach a playoff milestone.
Ernie Clement is the first player to record 30 hits in a single playoff run
In the eighth inning, Clement hit a double off Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan. In doing so, he recorded his 30th hit of the 2025 postseason. This breaks a postseason record of 29 hits set by Randy Arozarena in 2020. Arozarena would see a total of 77 at-bats that year. Clement would see 73. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would also make his mark, tying Arozarena’s 29 hits on Saturday, making a Blue Jays tag team of first and second.Â
One of the more underrated players in baseball, Clement has been instrumental in the Blue Jays’ postseason run that culminated in the team’s first World Series appearance since 1993. His effort produced 13 runs scored and nine RBI, accumulating six doubles and a triple in addition to his lone long ball. His strikeout total stands at just five. That’s six hits for every strikeout.Â
