ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Atlanta Braves have hired Walt Weiss as their next manager, replacing Brian Snitker. The 61-year-old will be the 49th manager in franchise history.
Weiss has experience both within the Braves organization and as a MLB manager.
He has been the Braves’ bench coach for the past eight seasons and played for the team from 1998 to 2000. He was named a National League All-Star starter in 1998 and batted .257/.354/.329 in a Braves uniform.
Since becoming the Braves’ bench coach, the Braves have compiled a 618-513 record.
He also won the AL Rookie of the Year award in 1988 and a World Series title in 1989 with the Oakland Athletics as a player.
Weiss spent the 2013 to 2016 seasons as the manager of the Colorado Rockies. He went 283-365 as the Rockies’ manager.
He replaces Brian Snitker, who became the Braves’ manager in 2016. He went 811-668 at the helm, including six NL East division titles and a 2021 World Series win.
Snitker announced he was stepping down after a disappointing 76-86 record in 2025.
