A pair of baseball standouts at West Harrison High School are heading to the next level, inking with community-college programs on Friday.
Dezi Curley and Cameron Sandel signed national letters of intent inside the school library with coaches, family members, and friends joining them to celebrate. Curley will take the field next season for Holmes Community College while Sandel will do the same but for Southwest Mississippi Community College.
“It felt great to sign and be able to continue playing the sport I love most and also fulfilling a dream,” Curley said afterward. “Holmes’ commitment to winning and support in the program, along with the coaches’ commitment to their players, means a lot as well.”
Curley, heading into his senior season with three years of starting experience at third base and catcher, had a breakout campaign from the plate in 2025. He batted .305 with 25 hits, three doubles, a long ball, and 14 RBI.
As a pitcher, Curley has made 26 appearances over the past two seasons and has a 4.14 ERA. The righty has 69 punch-outs to his name.
Sandel broke onto the scene as a junior. The first baseman finished the 2025 season with a .277 batting average with 23 hits, nine doubles, one triple, and 17 RBI.
Also an asset on the mound, the righty notched three wins and 39 strikeouts from the bump a season ago. His career mark stands at 4-5, including four complete games and one save.
While Curley and Sandel will be splitting ways for college, the teammates will run it back for one more season when West Harrison opens 2026 on Feb. 16 against Long Beach High School.
