The Arizona Diamondbacks are just two years removed from playing in the World Series, but since then, things have fallen down a peg. Arizona hasn’t been back to the playoffs since, and it has been a tough few years.
The team just barely missed out on the postseason this year, as their fate came down to the final few games of the season. But in the end, the Diamondbacks were on the outside looking in when the playoffs began.
The Diamondbacks front office will work to fix this problem over the upcoming offseason, and it could see them be extremely aggressive. Arizona has a nice core in place, but it also needs some additional pieces to find more success in the loaded National League.
But how the team goes about this remains to be seen, especially considering that the team may need to be careful with spending. However, with the pressure to win, it could see Arizona take some gambles this winter.
This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Paul Goldschmidt Returns to the Arizona Diamondbacks
As Arizona tries to build its roster out for the future, one option could be to bring back an old friend. That would be veteran infielder Paul Goldschmidt, who will be a free agent this winter.
Goldschmidt is coming off a nice year with the New York Yankees, and he may welcome a return to Arizona before he calls it a career. Last season, Goldschmidt hit .274 with 10 home runs and 45 runs batted in for New York,
The Diamondbacks could use the veteran leadership of Goldschmidt, and he would give them a reliable bat in the lineup. Even if he didn’t play every day, Goldschmidt could provide this roster a big boost, and it would be a special story as well.
Goldschmidt was loved in Arizona before he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals a few years ago, and he helped the Diamondbacks find a lot of success. This would be a full-circle moment for each side, and Goldschmidt could finish his career right where it started all those years ago.
With the Diamondbacks not that far off from getting back to the playoffs, the addition of Goldschmidt could push them over the edge. Even at his age, his bat still has some pop in it, and he has been a consistent presence for whatever team he has been on.
Arizona likely could get Goldschmidt at a cheap price due to his age, and it could serve them extremely well for the upcoming year. The veteran has seen it all, and this could be his way of giving back to the team that drafted him back when his career first started.
