The Houston Astros are looking to put to bed a disastrous 2025 season and come out much stronger in 2026. They were plagued with injuries that hurt both their offense and their pitching staff.

They are hoping to put those injuries behind them and have made a change regarding their head athletic trainer. Jeremiah Randall was let go after the club decided not to renew his contract.

They have yet to fill the position, and that is not the only position they are trying to fill. The club is also looking for a new hitting coach after the front office decided to let go of Alex Cintron and Troy Snitker.

On the player side of things, the club had to make some tough decisions. They decided to place five players on outright waivers, including the 2022 World Series hero, Chas McCormick.

Chas McCormick is best known for his game-saving catch during the 2022 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. With Houston up one run, McCormick robbed J.T. Realmuto of what would have been at least a double after he leaped up at the wall for the snag.

Unfortunately, McCormick may have played his last game with the Astros. According to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome, he was placed on outright waivers along with four other players.

“The Astros have placed Chas McCormick on outright waivers, source tells The Athletic, along with John Rooney, Kenedy Corona, Luis Garcia and Pedro Leon.”

This should come as no surprise, as McCormick has struggled to stay healthy over the years. The Astros also have a surplus of young outfield talent, which contributed to the decision.

It will be interesting to see if any rival clubs look to add this aging outfielder to their organization.
