The deadline for the Dodgers to decide on his option came Thursday, and the choice was as straightforward as it gets. Bringing back the three-time World Series champion was always the plan, and as expected, the team made it official.
Muncy has been a key piece to the Dodgers for the past eight seasons.
The 35-year-old made a name for himself in the 2018 season, his first in Los Angeles. After two seasons with the Athletics, it appeared that his time in the majors was running out. However, he found himself in Los Angeles and has been a key cog in this golden age of Dodger baseball.
His first season in LA was storybook, as he recorded a career-high in OPS at .973. His eight seasons in Los Angeles have been great, slashing .232/.358/.485 and an OPS of .843, along with 713 hits, 209 homeruns and 587 RBIs in 924 games.

Muncy has made a name for himself in Dodgers lore in the postseason, becoming the all-time leader in postseason home runs with 16, setting the record this year. The lefty hitter has come up clutch time and time again in his tenure in LA, including the biggest game thus far, Game 7 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he hit a solo home run to trim the lead to 4-3 in the eighth inning.
The Dodgers are a different team when Muncy is on the field. Last season’s records with and without him were apparent: they went 60-40 with him and 33-29 without him.
