Royals’ Witt Jr. wins back-to-back Silver Sluggers after leading MLB in hits

  • November 8, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – After leading Major League Baseball in hits in consecutive seasons, it’s no surprise Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has won back-to-back Silver Sluggers.

The 25-year-old Royals star took home the American League’s Silver Slugger at shortstop for the second year in a row after an MLB-leading 184 hits, a .295 batting average to go along with 23 home runs and 88 RBI.

Witt Jr. was one of four Royals named Silver Slugger finalists, along with catcher Salvador Perez, third baseman Maikel Garcia and first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino. Bobby Baseball was the only Royal who brought home the award when winners were announced Friday.

Perez was beat out at catcher by Seattle Mariners star Cal Raleigh. Garcia was edged by Cleveland Guardians All-Star Jose Ramirez at third base and Pasquantino lost out at first base to Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz.

The Royals’ star was up against Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette and Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena.

Witt Jr. made more history Friday in winning his second Silver Slugger. According to Royals Director of Media Relations Nick Kappel, Witt Jr. became the fifth shortstop in MLB history to win a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in consecutive seasons.

Shortstops to win both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award in consecutive seasons:

Barry Larkin 1995-96
Edgar Renteria 2002-03
Alex Rodriguez 2002-03
Troy Tulowitzki 2010-11
BOBBY WITT JR. 2024-25

During his second Silver Slugger-winning season, Witt Jr. reached 100 career home runs and became a two-time All-Star.

Witt Jr. will attempt to win his third straight Silver Slugger in 2026, his fifth season with the Royals.
