Edmundo Sosa is the ultimate utility player. Whether he’s at second base, shortstop, third, or even in the outfield, he’s going to give 100% effort every night. There’s a reason why the bitches love Sosa.

Sosa’s best game by far was on September 24 against the Marlins where he became the first Phillies shortstop to hit three home runs in a single game.

You couldn’t ask for more from Edmundo Sosa, given his role on this team. He plays his position, whether it’s on the field or in the dugout, night after night with a smile on his face and an infectious enthusiasm for the game. He’s willing to do whatever it takes for the team, even learning a new position he’s never played before. In an era of a dwindling role for bench players and pinch hitters thanks to the universal DH, he’s exactly the kind of player that will still make a difference.

Let’s not pretend Sosa is anything more than he is. He’s a phenomenal bench player, but he’s not a starter. The few stretches where he had to play every day due to an injury showed why he doesn’t normally do so. When he plays too often, he just doesn’t play as well.

Also… there’s a reason why he only made three appearances in the outfield this season. Sometimes giving it your best shot just isn’t good enough to remain at a position. His home run robbery of Marcell Ozuna will always inspire a smile, but this was one experiment that just didn’t pan out.

The future with the Phillies:

Pending any major changes or a disaster with the infield over the winter, Sosa will be back once again on the bench next year. The bitches will continue to love him.
