The 2026 MLB offseason is officially underway, and while MLB Free Agency is gaining a majority of the attention due to the names like Kyle Tucker, Dylan Cease, and Pete Alonso available, there are also trades that could end up happening during this time. One of the trades that is a true possibility is Steven Kwan.
The Cleveland Guardians tried trading Steven Kan at the deadline but weren’t able to get a deal done. The Guardians aren’t quite a full contender yet, and need to be finding ways to advance the team. With Kwan set to be a free agent in two years, now could be the time to move him to get the most value in return.
A team that could look to go fully through with trading for Steven Kwan this offseason is the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Tampa Bay Rays’ biggest goal this offseason needs to be modifying their batting talent, especially their outfield. Last season, Tampa Bay’s outfielders ranked near the bottom in MLB in home runs and RBIs. Overall, the offensive production was lacking from the team outside of Junior Caminero, Brandon Lowe, and Yandy Diaz as they proved to be the above-average hitters Tampa Bay could rely on.
This can’t be the case again in 2026 if the Rays have any hopes of getting fully back on track. A way they can accomplish this is by trading for Steven Kwan.
Steven Kwan is coming off a season in which he had a slash line of .272/.330/.374, 11 home runs, and 56 RBIs. Over his entire career, Kwan has a slash line of .281/.351/.390 with 36 home runs and 206 RBIs. There is no denying that Kwan would bring a boost offensively to the Rays, which is something they direly need. He might not exactly be a power hitter, but he can provide Tampa Bay with the consistency from a batting standpoint.
