As the San Francisco Giants enter the MLB offseason, the team has a lot of holes to fill across the roster. San Francisco missed the playoffs once again this past year, despite putting together a nice run in the middle of the season.
The Giants made one of the bigger splashes of the trade deadline last year, acquiring star infielder Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox. This was a move that pretty much nobody saw coming, and now the Giants have a legitimate piece to build around for the future.
But Devers can’t do it alone, and the Giants have to find a way to get back to contending for a World Series title. This offseason could go a long way in making that happen, but the team will need to be active in how they go about their business.
Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey has already given some hints at where the offseason could go for San Francisco. The team is likely to focus its plans on adding pitching to the team, and there are quite a few options for this franchise to consider.
The Giants have to find a way to keep up with the other elite teams in the National League, but specifically in the NL West. If the Giants don’t have the arms to contend against teams like the San Diego Padres or Los Angeles Dodgers, they will already have been behind in the standings.
San Francisco is looking to fix this fact over the winter, but it could be troublesome. The Giants haven’t been able to land the big free agents in recent years, so there is some level of concern coming from the organization.
But with Posey now in charge, things could be different, especially because players still respect what he did while he was playing. This could potentially see the Giants make some major moves this winter, but how it all goes down with this team remains a big question mark.
This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

San Francisco Giants Sign Zac Gallen
One option for the Giants to consider could be right Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gallen is heading to free agency, and many people around baseball don’t believe that a return to Arizona is in the cards.
In 33 starts for the Diamondbacks, Gallen posted an ERA of 4.83, while striking out 175 batters over 192 innings of work. The veteran has made at least 28 starts in each of the last four seasons, showing some impressive consistency and durability.
Gallen is already familiar with the NL West from his time in Arizona, and the Giants have seen a lot of him. While his stuff was a little down this past season, Gallen does have ace-like material on the mound.
The right-hander could be one of the leaders of this rotation going forward, and this could be a smart investment from the Giants. If they could add Gallen to the mix, it would also help to weaken the Diamondbacks, which would be a win-win in itself.
This could be one way for the Giants to start building back toward contention, and Gallen has shown he can perform well in the postseason. San Francisco should be doing whatever it can to land him to bolster the starting rotation for years to come.
