The Arizona Diamondbacks almost rode some Wild Card magic to a World Series championship in 2023, a season that surprised many and positioned the franchise as an ascending, young unit that could be a real contender for years to come. But despite a very good 89-win season in 2024, it wasn’t enough to crack the Wild Card in a tough National League.
While AZ had started spending like buyers after the pleasant surprise of ’23, things came to a crashing halt this past season, and the club sold off some of its veteran presence as it looked to the future. As gloomy as that may sound, there are plenty of reasons for hope; the team actually won a number of games down the stretch, showing grit and determination. They also have critical components like Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and ’25 shocker Geraldo Perdomo locked up for many years to come. The team finished with the 5th highest OPS, which is a pretty great indication that if some of their young arms can come alive, this could end up being more of a retooling than a rebuild.
