The Atlanta Braves came into the season with high expectations, but they fell short by a lot. They were one of the more disappointing teams in baseball this year and they need to do everything in their power to avoid repeating this heartbreak next year.

The Braves could dive into free agency very aggressively in order to avoid disappointment again.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale recently predicted the Braves would steal free agent pitcher Dylan Cease from the San Diego Padres this offseason.

Cease’s free agency sweepstakes could get rather expensive this winter. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently projected Cease would sign for $187 million this offseason and the Braves could make a solid run at him for that price.

The Braves could afford to add another pitcher to their loaded rotation. Despite having a lot of talent, they struggled with depth this season.

But the biggest reason this idea makes sense is the Braves’ desperation.

Atlanta is a club that’s won a lot over the last decade. It’s seemingly unacceptable to have as disappointing of a season as they did this year. The Braves front office will likely be aggressive in free agency, so a player like Cease could fit perfectly in Atlanta.
