The San Francisco Giants enter the offseason in need of another splash, and none this year will be larger than free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.
Tucker, 28, is the top free agent available this offseason and will be in the market for a new contract that is expected to start above the $400 million range.
While there will be more aggressive suitors for Tucker in free agency, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale views San Francisco as a team that could make a push for the star corner outfielder this winter.
Kyle Tucker, a native of Tampa, will sign with the Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, or Los Angeles Dodgers, GMs predict.
The San Francisco Giants are a darkhorse, but considering they still owe Rafael Devers $250 million, are in the second year of a seven-year, $182 million contract with Willy Adames and the second of a six-year, $151 million extension with Matt Chapman, there’s only so many nine-figure contracts the Giants can seemingly afford.
They are paying $137 million alone to their top six players next year: Devers, Chapman, Adames, Robbie Ray, Logan Webb and Jung Hoo Lee. And don’t forget they are paying a record $10.5 million in salaries for a manager in 2026 – $4 million to fired Bob Melvin, $3.5 million to new manager Tony Vitello and $3 million to Tennessee for Vitello’s buyout.

More on MLB free agent OF Kyle Tucker
Kyle Tucker is an intriguing free agent due to his age (28 years old), ability to play right and left field in the big leagues, and the fact that he holds a career batting average of .273 and an on-base percentage of .358 over eight MLB seasons with the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs.
Tucker is a four-time All-Star, Gold Glove Award winner (2022), Silver Slugger Award winner (2023), and a 2022 World Series champion with Houston. Over the span of his eight-year career, Tucker has posted an impressive .856 on-base-plus-slugging percentage (league average has not been above .758 since 2006).
San Francisco has an opening in right field this offseason, which would be the ideal fit for Kyle Tucker. During his MLB career, Tucker has logged 639 games in right field, 72 games in left field, five games in center, and four games at first base.

The San Francisco Giants may have finished the 2025 season with one of the top-ten pitching staff ERAs in Major League Baseball, but that might not stop them from pursuing Max Scherzer this offseason.
As MLB free agency gets underway, The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal reports that many around the league expect the three-time Cy Young Award winner to land with the Giants, pairing him with recently-hired manager Tony Vitello, who coached Scherzer during his college days at Missouri.
Scherzer, 41, just put the finishing touches on his 18th big-league season with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he started Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right-hander looked strong over 4.1 innings, allowing just one run while striking out three before exiting the game with a 3-1 lead.
Toronto went on to lose in extra innings as the Dodgers claimed a second-straight title.
