A few promotions today.
Right-hander Brayden Riesdorph was promoted to High-A South Bend from Low-A Myrtle Beach.
RIght-hander Sam Thoresen goes to Double-A Knoxville from South Bend.
Infielder Hayden Cantrelle moves up to Triple-A Iowa from Knoxville.
I-Cubs catcher Carlos Pérez was named International League Player of the Week.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were sunk by the Columbus Clippers (Guardians), 3-2.
Keegan Thompson started and gave up one run on four hits over 3.2 innings. Thompson struck out four and walked one. He also hit a batter.
After the I-Cubs tied it in the top of the sixth, Ryan Brasier came on to pitch the bottom of the inning. He gave up one run on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Carlos Pérez stayed hot with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Pérez went 1 for 4.
Left fielder Christian Franklin went 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored.
Iowa was held to just four hits.
Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies were caught in the nets of the Biloxi Shuckers (Brewers), 4-3.
Sam Armstrong started and took the loss after giving up three runs on a pair of home runs in the sixth inning. His final line was three runs on five hits over 5.2 innings. He walked two, hit one batter and struck out three.
Left fielder Darius Hill connected for a solo home run in the second inning. Hill went 2 for 4 with two total RBI.
Center fielder Brett Bateman was 2 for 4.

South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were snakebit by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers), 7-6 in a game that ended after six innings because of inclement weather.
Starter Tyler Schlaffer was battered for six runs on seven hits over four innings. He walked three and struck out four
After South Bend rallied to tie the game with a six-run bottom of the fifth, Vince Reilly gave up a run in the top of the sixth and took the loss. Reilly allowed one run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. He walked one and struck out one.
Center fielder Andy Garriola hit a grand slam in that six-run fifth, his seventh of the season. Garriola went 1 for 3.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were pinched by the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers), 2-1.
The Pelicans wasted a terrific start from Brooks Caple, who pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Caple walked three and struck out six.
Yoendris Gonzalez came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth with the game still scoreless and he couldn’t find the plate. Gonzalez allowed two runs on one hit, one walk and two hit batsmen over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
The only Pelicans run came in the top of the ninth when second baseman Ty Southisene scored on an error. Southisene was 1 for 3 with a walk and a stolen base.
Left fielder Jose Escobar was 2 for 3 with a walk.
Shortstop Yahil Melendez went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.
ACL Cubs
Losing to the Royals, 8-2 in the seventh.
Forty-five year-old Rich Hill pitched four perfect innings for the Royals in this game. Hill struck out seven.
