LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Athletics slugger and former Las Vegas Aviators first baseman Nick Kurtz has been named the 2025 American League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year.

Kurtz, 22, received all 30 first-place votes, making him the 14th player to win the award by a unanimous vote and the second in A’s history after Mark McGwire.

All-time, he’s the ninth A’s player to receive the award and first since Andrew Bailey in 2009.

Kurtz appeared in 20 games for the Aviators this year before getting called up to the big leagues in late April. He had seven home runs and 24 RBI to go with a .321 batting average in his brief time with Las Vegas.

In 117 games with the A’s, Kurtz slugged 36 homers and tallied 86 RBI to lead all rookies in Major League Baseball. He also slashed a .290 average, .383 on-base percentage and .619 slugging percentage.

A’s teammate and shortstop Jacob Wilson finished second in voting. Wilson appeared in four games with the Aviators this season and 26 games last season.
