The Texas Rangers missed the playoffs again this past season, making the second straight year of it happening. 2025 was a massively disappointing year for this franchise, and the front office will be looking to right the ship for the 2026 season.

One area that Texas needs to address this winter is within the starting rotation. As the Rangers saw a few years ago, spending in free agency can have strong benefits, and they ended up winning the title in 2023.

Entering this offseason, the Rangers’ front office may look to be active again so they can get back to the playoffs. Texas doesn’t have to spend at the top of the market, and in fact, there is an argument to be made that they just need to tweak some things on the edge of the roster.

But how this Rangers front office goes about adding to this team remains to be seen as the winter moves toward players starting to sign. However, if this team wants to contend next season, then adding will be a massive priority for this franchise.

This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

Texas Rangers Sign Dustin May

One option to help bolster the starting rotation could be to take some flyers on pitchers across baseball. Texas doesn’t need to spend a lot this winter, and instead could build depth up across the pitching staff.

Right-hander Dustin May could make a lot of sense for the Rangers to consider, and he could easily bolster this club. May spent the second half of the season with the Boston Red Sox after being traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline.

The veteran is a hard-throwing pitcher who has nasty stuff on the mound when he is healthy. But unfortunately for May, he hasn’t been able to stay healthy of late, and it has impacted his value around the league.

May could be a nice backend starter for the Ranfers, or the team could also look to convert him to being a bullpen arm if things didn’t work out in the rotation. Last season, May appeared in 25 games, starting in 23 of them between the Red Sox and Dodgers.

The hard-throwing righty posted an ERA of 4.96, while striking out 123 batters over 132.1 innings of work. It was an up-and-down year for May, but he could be motivated to build his reputation around baseball.

The Rangers could land him on a prove-it type of deal, and then he could reenter free agency next offseason to get a larger deal. May is from Texas as well, which could be a homecoming for him.

The right-hander was once seen as a crucial piece to the Dodgers’ future, but injuries completely derailed his time with the team. This could be a chance for May to prove everyone wrong, while giving the Rangers more depth for the season in the pitching staff.
