ARLINGTON, Texas – Nov. 12, 2025 – Following a disappointing end to their 2025 campaign, the Texas Rangers and new manager Skip Schumaker are executing a major overhaul of the Major League coaching staff. Schumaker, who was hired on October 3, has finalized the majority of his 2026 staff, bringing in high-profile talent and promoting experienced hands.

The Rangers finished the 2025 season with a record of 78-84.

Major Additions Signal New Approach

The most impactful move is the hiring of new Major League Hitting Coach Alex Cintrón, poached directly from the rival Houston Astros. During Cintrón’s seven-year tenure as Houston’s hitting coach (2019-25), the Astros were an offensive powerhouse, leading the American League in on-base plus slugging percentage (.764) and boasting the lowest strikeout rate (19.6%) in all of Major League Baseball.

Schumaker also quickly secured the hiring of two other key staff members with organizational or personal ties:

Rod Barajas (Quality Control Coach): The former Rangers catcher (2004-06) returns to the organization, reuniting with Schumaker after serving as his field coordinator when the Miami Marlins clinched a 2023 N.L. Wild Card berth.

Travis Jankowski (First Base Coach): Jankowski makes an immediate jump from his 11-year playing career (which included the 2023-24 seasons with Texas) to the coaching ranks. Known for his speed, he was successful on 85.7% of his stolen base attempts from 2017-25, and is expected to revamp the team’s baserunning.

Colby Suggs (Bullpen Coach): A Sulphur Springs native, Suggs joins from the Minnesota Twins, where he guided a bullpen that ranked among the American League’s top five in strikeouts and fewest walks during his four-season tenure.
